There's a lot of garbage on the stage each year, but the same can be said about movies, music, TV, books - well, just about anything. But, with that said, there is a lot of good theater out there too.
I love watching the Tony awards (thank you DVR). It's fun to see performances from the new shows, see who is nominated & who wins....often I haven't heard of many of the shows, but that's one of the reasons I enjoy watching the show...I get to see bits of shows I haven't seen. It gets me excited to see if any of the shows are coming to SLC or to dream about what I want to see next time I'm in NYC. It also saddens me when crap gets so many accolades. It also makes me a bit sad that I didn't get to see some of the excellent plays that only had limited engagements (like The Coast of Utopia).
I'm still waiting to see Jersey Boys - which won best musical & others, last year. They sang December, 1963 tonight - it was fun. I imagine it being as fun as Mama Mia - which I loved - mostly for the music, but the story was good too.
This season, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and The Drowsy Chaperone are coming to SLC. I'm excited. Spamalot comes this September - I can't wait! Wicked doesn't come until 2009 - that's crappy, luckily I saw it in Tempe. Speaking of Tempe, the difference between their broadway season and SLC's crappy one, is huge....makes me wish I still lived in AZ. Oh well, there is obviously more to why I moved to SLC than what shows are coming to town LOL.
