So I've probably said this before, but I'm not a big fan of Chinese food. I can eat the Americanized stuff more or less. I like Golden Phoenix on State St & 10th South, but the Chinese food I ate in Hong Kong was seriously my worst nightmare. Bones, skin, fat, and whatever other grossness you could possibly imagine. This picture hardly does it justice. My dad (who loves Chinese food, has been to Hong Kong & mainland china and lived in Taiwan for 2 years) keeps telling me I just ordered the wrong things, but I'm not so sure.I am SOOOOO against eating at American chain restaurants while in foreign countries (except for when I lived in Romania...McDonalds every once in a while was a welcome treat because surprisingly it was a different experience than McDonalds in the States.).
Although I do want to try as much Chinese food in China as possible, I am preparing my conscience to be ok with eating at American chains. I figure Beijing is a huge city, so I'll be just fine. Xian, I'm not sure about, but I'll survive. I can eat rice for 3 days if I have to ;-)
Anyway, I was excited when I ran across this:
"There are 37 McDonald's in Beijing, along with Pizza Hut, Baskin Robbins, Hard Rock Cafe and TGIF"
The trip is 4+ months away, but I've been excited about it for over a year, so bear with me if I talk about it way too much.
