Dirty Car & Thai food

I really need to wash my car. It's so dirty from driving on salted roads.
could this blog be more boring? I need to come up with something more than the mundane to blog about. I write a lot on my private blog, but I'm just not so sure I want just anyone to read those things. maybe I'm being too guarded. But better safe than sorry.

so, here's a topic for today.
My new love for Thai food. I have always had issues with Chinese food & although I can always find something I like, there are many things I don't like. Although I think that has changed a lot in the past few years as I am trying to get over my fear of eating the unknown (ie spring rolls & soups...what the heck is in there???!?). So my semi-new theory is take a bite & if it's good keep eating, if it's gross, chalk it up to experience.

So...back to Thai food. I had never eaten Thai food until about a month before I went to Thailand. I figured it was asian...along the lines of chinese or something, so I was a little worried. I went to Sawadee & to Thai Garden twice. and WOW! I seriously LOVE Thai food! Each time we went, there were 4-8 of us & we ate family style, so I was able to try a lot of different dishes. Once we got to Thailand, eating at local places (non americanized) was my goal. The best meal of the trip was after we rode elephants. They cooked us a delicious meal...and authentic was the word...holy cow. The people that work at the elephant preserve live there too. It's fairly far off the beaten path. So they made the food just like they would for themselves & infact, they ate the same food once we had eaten. While we were there I bought some of their homemade curry pastes. We watched them make a batch of green curry. It was so easy, but reminded me a tiny bit of mole with all the different ingredients (ok, not quite as many as mole, but you get the picture)...lemon grass, tumric, garlic, lime leaves, hot green chilies, onion, ginger, corriander etc. I have a picture of all the ingredients. I should post it.

I loved Thailand. The people are friendly, the culture is interesting, the sights (man-made & natural) are beautiful, the shopping is great & the food is fantastic! I can't wait to go back someday. Meanwhile I'll just have to enjoy the food....whether at an authentic restaurant or making it myself.

maybe the next post should be about my chinese food experience in hong kong. It's not so good.
