Gratitude

So it's not Thanksgiving yet, but I've had a couple bouts of gratitude today, for which I'm grateful.
I'm kidding about the thanksgiving thing, but sometimes it's easy to get so caught up in life that I fail to recognize things I am grateful for.
...I've been very blessed to have had opportunities to travel...sometimes I probably seem ungrateful because I'm always thinking about where I want to go next, but I am grateful. I've had so many wonderful experiences that have impacted my life in so many ways. I've seen so much, met amazing people, (some amazing in their own special way), I've exercised my formerly extremely picky tastebuds (Thai food has become one of my all time favorites & alpaca IS tasty, but breakfast foods in Xian, China can be a bit scary & gross...but I tasted them). I've fallen in love with dozens of children in Romania (whose smiles & precious spirits will always occupy a special place in my heart). I've been humbled by people & circumstances, in places like Peru, Thailand, China, and Mexico. Last week I had priceless time spent with family in Canada & Maine. I've experienced cultures, traditions, religions & learned about the history of some facinating people.
Anyway, today I was sitting in a meeting & glanced down at the pen I was using. I saw it was one from the hotel we stayed at in Lima, and I had a moment where I felt SO GRATEFUL that I had the opportunity to go to Peru. My mind was flooded with many of the amazing experiences I had, and the wonderful people I met there.
I also had 2 moments where I reflected on my mission to NYC/CT & how grateful I am for those countless experiences & people I met.
I think I need to "count my bessings" more often. ...especially the ones that are so easy to take for granted like health, family, clothing, shelter, running water, hot water, readily available food, etc, etc.

  1. Thanks for this post; it brought tears to my eyes and a warm spot in my heart. Though most of the time I don't want to travel (I'm a homebody)I, too, am grateful for the wonderful people I've met and the beautiful countries I've visited. Sharing with you a bit of my heritage in Canada last week...seeing the hospital I was born in (it's now a warehouse) driving past your great grandparent's home, meeting relatives that mean a lot to me and you haven't seen since you were 5 years old, getting our pictures taken in front of my favorite lighthouse(Peggy's Cove Nova Scotia, Canada)was a highlight for me...and Canada isn't one of our exotic trips!!! THANKS!
