American Idol, here I come!

Just Kidding! I'm sure they'd believe I was under 28, but if I got through to the judges, it would be for their clips of AWFUL singers. If I try, I can sound ok enough not to be embarrassed to sing in church or in the car by myself, but I think I could pull off a pretty bad audition without much effort.

Can you imagine the SLC auditions? We may not have a big city of crazies (ie NYC, San Francisco, etc), but SLC will bring all the people that think singing in church every Sunday means they have talent. I think the SLC audition episode will be painful to watch. Sadly, even many of the people in UT that can sing, have this "thing" where they SOUND Mormon. You may know what I'm talking about - it's kind of hard to explain, but it's the equivalent to the "sweet", "sing-songy" Mormon speaking voice thing that most of the Molly Mormon Wanna Be's have. It's not just in UT, but there is a higher % of the population that have it here. It grates on my nerves & hurts my ears. I just want to scream PLEASE STOP TALKING LIKE THAT because YOU SOUND RIDICULOUS!

I DO think my brother Aaron should go down & try out. He can carry a tune, but I think he ought to try to sound AWFUL, so they'll put him through. Paula can drool over how cut he is & how she loves his red hair & Randy can "dawg" it up with him. Then Simon can tell him how awful he was & it will be funny & he'll make it on TV or something. Maybe Aaron can make up some story about how his dying grandfather's last wish was for him to be on American Idol & that his apartment was broken into, so he sings on the street to earn money to buy food because they stole the meat out of his freezer.

I wonder about having auditions in Puerto Rico. Simon has criticized people for having an accent or not singing in English - I wonder if they're thinking about allowing someone on the show that could sell CD's in both the Latin/Spanish and the English markets?

Anyway, this is a bizarre post. I think I need a nap.

If you're interested in going to any of the American Idol auditions, here's the info.

  3. I completely agree with the whole "mormon singing" thing. There is definitely something to it and also the way they talk sometimes. Also, have you ever noticed that returned missionaries talk that way as well. They talk in a lilting sort of way - like they space their words out differently and it sounds almost rehersed or something. I remember even speaking that way for awhile when I got home. Anyway - Amy, I am so with you - the SLC will be interesting. There was a couple on America's Got Talent last night that I would SWEAR on my life were mormon. They married after 3 months and were SO CHEESY. If you can find it on the web - you should watch it. They are wearing yellow and one of the judges joked that they were cheesy and were even dressed like cheese. It was funny!
